That looks a great idea for old snaps and stuff. I'm not sure how good it would be for real detail. Even so, I'll have to try it.
I do the same sort of thing for a low quality image if I need it for a digi frame or just to get an old photo as a file (i.e take a photo of an old photo rather than scan it)

Not bad really, but seeing as you need a DSLR camera which is prob more than a scanner (as for your photos you'd be using a film one) seems a bit costly

Its slide copying
Been around a long time, was used with a film camera to make 2 identical slides, in practice the copy was nothing like as good as the original.
I was slide copying when I was in between scanners, you can buy a slide copy stand cheap, and not have focus/light leak/square & level difficulties, some have lenses in them, some attach to the filter thread of a macro lens, just add light
