D1x firmware

Just got this super camera from Wack and it has firmware 5.01 installed and was wondering if this is the best for it as this upgrades the buffer but I cant seem to format any of our 4GB cards to use in it, Babytiger is being offered some cards in her wanted thread and they are very much appreciated "THANKS" but is the v1 firmware any better as this allows up to 2GB cards to be used I think but lowers the buffer.......swings n roundabouts I think

As it is only 6 mpix the images are smaller and you get about 250 ish shots on a 1Gb card. With that in mind I would just carry a couple of cards. The biggest downer with the D1x is the battery life. There are two GOOD batteries with that camera and 2 iffy ones. The good ones are good for about 100-130 shots so you will fill a 1Gb card using both batteries. You will only get a dozen shots from the other batteries but they were there for the big L-ion switcheroony - You can cut the top off them, remove the NiMd cells, fit battery contacts and install L-ion batteries in them giving you 300 shots per battery.

If you are interested in modifying the two iffy batteries let me know. I did find suppliers for the AA ish sized L-ions at a reasonable price plus a charger.

I'm pretty sure I could only use up to 2Gb cards in my old D1x, no matter which firmware was installed...which is why I kept so many of them...it's now been donated to my brother...

Thanks Artona but not really needed as I had to buy a card reader
