D200 card format problems

Interesting issue here.
Just bought a new card reader, plugged in my Extreme 3 CF card and my iMac won't read it through the new reader, I then put it back into my camera and linked through USB, which it recognised.

Tried the same with a second card, same issue.

I then put the 2nd card back into my camera and now not even the camera will read it. It just flashes [for] in remaining shot brackets.

I then put the first card in the camera again and this too is doing the same thing...strange thing is, I can plug it into the iMac and it recognises that there are files on the card but they aren't recognised as raw files, just random letters.

I even resigned myself to the fact I had lost the files on the card and tried to reformat in camera. Unfortunately the [for] continues to flash in the remaining shot brackets.

Google is not my friend on this occasion so I'm hoping someone on here can help.

TIA

Kev

Ok, so I did a full reformat through the menu of my D200 and all is ok again, albeit, minus pictures [sniff]
Tried it in card reader again and its done the same again.
I'm assuming it must be the card reader. Who'd have thought they could cause so much bother...

Take the card reader off the USB cable and just connect the camera directly via USB.... I find it's quicker, easier (set the USB setting in the camera menu to mass storage and not PTP) and more convenient to carry just a cable around. I had too many problems with card readers and hate them these days....

RE: the flashing [FOR].... are you making sure you press the FORMAT buttons (the bin and the mode buttons) again?... it's a double click process (on my D2x it is anyway).... first press (of both) initiates formatting; second pressing of both completes formatting, leaving you with a totally empty card.... simples :)
