D200 or D80

Currently have a D80 that I use as a back up camera and I'm thinking of replacing it with a D200. Now I would love a D3s and use my D700 as back up but at the moment funds won't allow it.

How is the D200 in low light?

Has anyone made the switch and what did you think?

I believe the D200 has the same sensor as the D80 so basically it's exactly the same.

could you stretch to d300?

That was the other one I thought about but it is a bit too much. Only wanna pay around £300 as it's a back up and won't get used that much.

Within your budget, if you value a new sensor then a D3100 or D5000 will do you fine but will have limited direct access controls, if you fancy direct controls then you won't be able to upgrade your D80 for £300.

The upgrade to the D80 is the D90 and they still fetch £400ish (you might be able to get one for a little less but not much).

I've a D200 as a third body and I've had a lot of great shots with it.
I'd be reluctant to use it for a wedding. I'd make sure I had couple of very fast primes handy to use it with.

The D200 will give you nothing in terms of IQ or low light. It will give you a backup that has a similar control layout to your D700. If you're pretty used to the layout of the D80, I can't really see the need to swap.
