D200 problem...

I'd appreciate any help on this.. ...

I went out with another tog this morning, both using Nikon D200's. We drove for a while and finally found somewhere to photograph. He set his camera up and started shooting, i stood by and watched with my camera still in the bag. About 10 mins later, i decided to set up... I sat the camera on my tripod and started taking pix... after around 5 or six shots, the camera started to error and i realised the mirror had stuck... after pressing the shutter button again, it unlocked, but no image was taken... ... .. this happened a couple of times, and then it was ok again... .. we got back in the car, went to another location and it was fine for a while, then the problem occurred again... same problem, but this time i had no choice but to put the camera away as it wasn't recovering from the problem. I started going through the menu and trying different things... adjusted the ISO up to 1600, let go of the button, went back to ISO setting and it had reset back to ISO100... did this a couple of times.....

I got back in car and drove home... half hour later, the camera is working again...... ... It was pretty cold out, but i have been out in colder temps than that and it never malfunctioned... ...

Has this ever happened to anyone else???? I would greatly appreciate any help on this... i'm gonna send it off to Nikon as I have weddings coming up April onwards, so i'm not gonna sit back and hope all will be well..... ..

I would replace the battery with a newer freshly charged one before doing anything else. You could try swapping the battery with your mate and see if his plays up in a similar way, this would at least eliminate one possible cause of the problem before sending it away to Nikon, in any event intermittent faults can very very difficult to trace
 
Thanks Dave, I'm gonna try it now and if it does play up, i'll put another battery in.. .. shame i didn't think of your idea earlier of swapping the battery... it would have put my mind at ease if that was the fault...

I've tried it in the warmth of the house and it started playing up again... before i removed the batteries, i decided to remove the CF card, format it in the pc and put it back in... it's not faultered once since then... i've tried bracketing and continuous shooting and so far it's been fine... before i formatted the card, i moved across any files to my drive so i can check those out... i think it actually did record something onto the card, but no image data... i'll have a look now.....
 
I have this problem when the battery is low. Some times it says the battery is full although its not. I use a grip, so switch batteries and its fine again

Hope you get to the bottom of it

I have the battery grip too and extra batteries... ... i wish i tried it at the time to confirm it was the battery, however, since formatting the card in PC and then again in camera, i've not had the issue... and i've firing shots off now and again for the past couple of hours... so i'm hoping all is well... but for peace of mind, i may send it in for a service.. ...

Well, the problem occured again on Sunday and i tried changing batteries and memory cards but no joy... ... i put it away and tried it the following day and it's working fine again... It's off to Nikon now but in the meantime, i'm investing in a D300s.. ..

I'll keep you all posted with the results...
