D200 question

I usually have the quality settings on my D200 set at 'fine' and 'large'.

When i put an (empty) 8GB card in the camera it shows a remaining capacity of about 670 shots.

Yesterday, I got my hands on another D200 which was also set to 'fine' & 'large'. Putting the same card in, the camera only showed about 470 shots capacity. I wasnt aware of any other settings that affected the size of the jpgs's.....does anyone know what Im missing ??

Could be, if its set to shoot in Raw or jpeg or both.Just a quess

I checked for that one and its def set to jpeg only.......

There's a compression setting.

Menu > Shooting Menu > JPEG Compression & RAW Compression

you can also set up compression on the d200, I wonder if that is the reason, although thinking about it I think it is only for raw, I can not check as I am sat in a hotel with no camera or manual.

Possibly Adobe RGB versus SRGB, or 12 BIT vs 14 BIT?

yep - i formatted it in each camera.

AFAIK the D200 doesn't have 14 bit processing. The D300 does though...

It was the JPEG compression settings......never even knew they existed !!
