I am looking at getting another body this week but im spending about £400-500

i was looking at the d200 but some people are telling me it is too old

what are you views on this?

and would you go for d200 or d90 i mainly shoot portrait and the odd motocross event

Help pleaseeeeee
 
D200 is a great camera, a real workhorse, but above ISO 800 isnt great. Built much more solidly than the D90, but the D90 is slightly newer.

I wouldnt say the D200 is too old, its just old.

Do you want something thats older but will last forever, or newer that wont.
 
d200 is a great camera, still use mine weekly. I will not be getting rid of mine anytime soon.
 
With a budget of £500 you're only a few quid short of a used D300, that's where my money would be going....
 
Too be honest i have a d70 now i love it i will be keeping it as a back, i have seen work and had i feel with the d90 but not to sure, i think to my self if this is such a good camera then why is it only £550 new and a d200 which is 3 years older only £100 less and that is saying alot for me.

Would you personally say the d200 is better for money
 
similarly and based on the D200 the fuji S5pro now might be called an 'oldie' too and whether it be called a 12MP or 6MP by some it is a fabulous camera for portrait use and solid as a rock,prices for used ones now as low as £350.i wont be selling my one anytime soon

Yeah i have seen these for about 700 ish but i really cant stretch that far as im going to be buying a flashgun and another lens also.

I did think of finance on a new d300s but that would be very selfish of me and im sure the other half would be rather annoyed to say the least:lol:

Thank you for the suggestion but i want to stick with nikons due to being so in love with my d70.
 
S5 pro is a Nikon really, same body, same controls, same lens mount. Just different sensor.

That might be the d300s then i was looking at for that price

s5 pro is built on a d200, nikon lens mount and extended dynamic range. Really depends what you are shooting, but if it is people, look at the s5 pro iit is a fantastic camera.

So get a d200 then basically (i want to stick to nikon)

As I said, I will not be getting rid of my d200 it is a great camera, I also have a d300 and if I find an s5 pro for the right number I will be getting that as well. the s5 has a different sensor and firmware so although built on a d200 chassis it is a totally different beast.
