D3 - Anyone find this?

With the 50mm/1.4 I can rotate the focus ring with a slight resistance in either C/S mode, and it goes totally floppy in M mode as expected. With the D300s the focus ring/motor locked solid, but in the D3 you can use it in an almost AF-S fashion (but with a nice resistance to it). I can't help but feel though this won't be good for the AF motor?

Aye if it ain't an AFS lens then don't try manual over ride! Sommat will give!
