D300 2xQuestions

I very often take my D300 out with a Sigma 50 - 500mm attached, I noticed the other day that the lens moves very, very slightly (twists left to right and visa versa), this got me curious so I attached another lens (105 Nikon macro) and this also has this very, very slight movement. The D300 takes photos just fine and everything works as it should. As I stated, the movement is very slight, I just never noticed it before.

So my two questions are these:

1) is it OK to carry the D300 with the 50 - 500mm attached all the time, or should I remove it and only attach when I am ready?

2)is this very slight movement normal?

Many thanks for your help.

1. Yes, but carry it by the lens rather than the body.

2.Yes, but not an excessive amount.

:)

1. yes - but in this case try to carry the combination by the lens, rather than camera (or hang it in a 'lens down' position around your neck)

2. it's normal - happens with all the lenses on my d300. so long as the rotation isn't too big, it won't affect the way the lens works (since it doesn't affect the 'distance' between any of the optics & the sensor).

I use a monopod with this lens & camera, attached all the time when I'm out, over shoulder very comfy...I would'nt fancy this hung around my neck for long....yes i found there seems more movement in this camera, more than on my D70...sometimes I have problems with some lenses not making contact with pins..but not nikon lenses... only third party...mark.

Many thanks for the replies and I will follow the recommendation to carry the camera by the lens, cheers everyone that has put my mind at ease

Check the tiny screws on the mounts to see if they need tightening. :)

Good point, I had to do this with one of my Siggys after it came back from service.
