hi all. i recieved my brand new d300 today and stuck my 18-200mm on it, tried to af and it just hunted back and forth:eek:'( tried 4 different lenses, some afs and non afs lenses. so thought it was knackered.
On the off chance went on the net and typed in d300 af problems,
first page was this.

so i put the camera into live view and bang focus everytime, switched back to single shot and it was working spot on:D,
has anyone else had this problem and if so has it caused more problems.

I had the same problem with my new D300. I took it back ( to Jessops) for a replacement. If it is faulty from new, take it straight back if you can.

Haven't heard of many D300 cameras with AF problems.

What AF settings where you using; a1, a2, a3, dynamic/single/"white block"?

What was the scene you were point the camera at like?

hi, allen the camera was new off of an ebay seller cant get d300 no more.
jamie i was using single point focus, materix metering and trying on everything to focus it would just not do it,, all the setting s the same as my other d300, bt as i said i swiched to live view and it focused no problem and its working spot on now,
i have seen another site that someone else had the same prob and theres was sorted by just taking a shot,
will just keep my eye on it, think it will be fine,
