Hi all - First up I have sold enough on here and else where to get my nice shiney new SB900:thumbs: WHAT A FLASH - :eek: wouldn't like it as a pimple on my nose thats for sure!

I have a little issue - When its on the hotshoe of the camera its supposed to auto detect the lens used - BUT mine will not budge from 10mm in the display also when Zoom is pressed you cannot adjust the setting in manual:thinking:

I have put a 17 55 and a 70 200 zoom on the body but it's still the same 10mm readout - OFF camera I can adjust it at will

Is this an FX DX thing?

Have you checked the secondary screen on the top is fully slid into it's slot. My 600s' won't zoom if not full in.
 
If either the difuser screen is down or the stofen difuser is on it will not some and sets the zoom to the specific zooms, sorry can not rember exact setting, can check when I get back to the hotel tonight for you.
 
+1 for the diffuser, witht hat on it presumes you want the widest possible throw so zooms it right out

I have just checked my sb900 on my d300 and with either or both the diffuser screen and stofen on it zooms out to 11mm.

There are two microswitches that detect if the diffuser is attached and it sets the flash head to the widest zoom.
