I had a go at fine tuning my lenses today; all my Nikon lenses did not require any fine tuning (perhaps +1 or 2 but nothing major)

My tarmon needed a +13 very surprised at that as I have always thought it was fairly sharp, cant wait so see how it performs in real life now.
 
Did you use a test sheet or anything to calibrate the lenses?
 
No, I do have a copy of a test sheet but I have heard that taking these test photos at a 45Deg angle is not recommended.

I just had 3 batteries spaced about 2 inches apart and at slightly different distances from the camera and with a plain white background.

Camera on a tripod with cable release and I took several shots with different levels of fine tuning and slowly narrowed it down from there.
 
it's a feature on the d300 where you can adjust the focus
