hi all, right just bit from today, looking through the view finder noticed some crud, so lens come of and there it was on the mirror, so got my brush :bonk: and well lets just say it removed the crud but put dust and specs off brush all over the focus screen :'( all with what looks like greas :gag:, so went on net found out how to remove focus sceen so i could clean it out of camera.
from here.http://www.focusingscreen.com/work/d300en.htm
, well lets just say i did what it said except my clip come right out:help:(b****r) and the focus scren would not budge, so i struggled like b****r to get the catch back in without scratching anything, managed after 30mins of cusing:thumbs:, but the focus screen was coverd in crud:gag:, in the end i just used wet sensor cleaning fluid on my pentax cleaning cloth and 99% come of except the the smudge of grease, and i hair trapped in the top corner, wont be doing that again,(will just have to live with it,(good news is no dust on sensor cheacked that.
not as easy as a pentax k20d screen.

Brave move! Lucky it seems to have turned out ok, but I wouldn't dare to venture into the inner workings of my D300.

 You don't say:thumbs: They are more complicated than a bag of ferrets - Leave it to those who have insurance against it all going wrong:thumbs:

Always used to carry a few different screens with my old nikon film kit as some did not work with certain types of lenses. Easy job to undertake really.

The D300 has auto sensor cleaning when you turn the camera on or off so it shouldn't really ever get that dirty. I've had mine for over a year and never noticed any dust specks on my photos.

You are certainly very brave for trying to remove parts from inside your camera. You wouldn't catch me trying it.
