D300 problem?

We made a visit to the Monaco GP last week and sucessfully managed to take somewhere around 2000 shots (more if you cound the ones I deleted while still on the camera). However, I also got 2 shots that look like this

Shots taken after this have been absolutely fine.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the cause? Or maybe answers so that it doesn't happen again?
 
Weird.
This is the same image that has had the shadows lifted in shadows/highlights.

Thanks for looking at it. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
 
The exif is not reporting any lens, it says 0.0mm f/0.0, could be a connection issue between the lens and the body.
 
hmmm thats interesting. Well spotted Martyn, thanks, I'd not noticed that. I wonder if its just as simple as I'd caught the lens release button and the lens had turned a little? Guess I'd rather it was that than actually have a problem with the camera or lens

Check what the exif says on a shot that worked

Ok, scratch that. Sounds like it might be a similar issue though, I had it with the 80-200 on the D300 (common) and with my first 20 TC III (which went straight back to the shop) on the D700 with both the 70-200 and 300 f/2.8.

The top lcd shows F and a triangle, indicating that the camera can't read the aperture setting on the lens and thee EXIF reports as yours has. Might, as you say, be as simple as you inadvertently pressing the release button, or the contacts may just need cleaning.
 
Interesting you say the 20 TC III can give this problem. I had been using that quite a bit last weekend too, but not when these shots were taken. Will need to keep a close eye on things but might try and clean the contacts anyway. I've got some electrical contact cleaner, a squirt on a cloth and a rub on the contacts? Or is that a better way?

Pencil rubber is often recommended, the ones that come fixed to the end of a pencil, but a drop of contact cleaner should do the trick.
