my d300 has a problem as it comes up with an :e: error on the top plate and wont recognize my 2 cf cards :'(. i have used them to take pics of my grandson and have viewed the shots taken on camera, i tried to download the pics using a card reader but its not working. now my camera says no memory card when i insert my card :'(
any ideas whats wrong ????
 
Sounds like your cards are knackered. Buy or borrow a new one and try it out. If you don't mind loosing the pictures, format the cards inside the camera.
What cards are they, where from and how old??

I had similar issues when a card reader died and screwed up a card.

In the end I formatted the card in camera then used the free lexar recovery tool and got every single image back, took me 45 mins on a 2GB card but it saved the images. Don't use the card after formatting but before rescuing as you might overwrite the images. The camera format just removes the "map" to the files it doesn't actually delete the files them selves, so you can get them back if you want to.

I can't find the link at the sec but I'm sure some one can help you if you can't.

edit: I can't find it as lexar have pull the download. You can get it still but not from lexar themselves so be wary of dodgy files. Other wise there are a few other free tools out there for both mac and windows.

both cards are san disk 2gb +8gb bought from jessops about 2yrs ago

camera wont let me format as it comes up with no memory card.
 
You haven't bent or brocken on of the memory card pins in the camera?
 
good my spelling was awful in that post, my apologies. Only reason I suggested that is on another forum ( sorry Marcel et all) a guy had the same error and it was a busted pin. Hopefully it isnt that for you.
