Yes
Whilst out covering a kart event today my D300 started playing silly buggers, I could not change the shutter speed or f stop without first half pressing the shutter release, any idea's ? It has never done this before.

Think thats normal, mine is like that.

The camera has to be 'awake' to change settings (as in 'touch' the shutter button to wake it up), but other than that I have never had to press or hold anything else to be able to change settings.

Just switch off and back on, or reset the camera.

When the numbers disappear on LCD top plate, it goes into a sleep mode, i press AF ON on the back and it comes alive again for changes :)

Probably you have not noticed before because you have used the camera before the meter has timed out.

Try changing the auto meter-off delay. The default is only 6 secs, but it can be altered.
BTW I base this on what my D300s does. Hopefully your D300 will be the same.
Item c2 in the Custom Set Up menu.

So is it a case of you have to wake the camera up before you can change settings?

Have you maybe tinkered with the setting for how long before the camera goes auto off?

never had that prob with my d300 let us know if you get the prob solved:clap:
