D300 to D700 - 10-20mm Sigma Lens Query

Hi All

I am considering going full frame and upgrading from my D300 to the D700. My lens bag consists of:

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC
Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 IF EX DG HSM
Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX DG Macro HSM II
Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 DG OS HSM
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G

My problem is that the one lens I use MORE than any other (due to my love of landscapes) is the Sigma 10-20mm which is designed for cropped sensors.

So my question is whats an alternative at a reasonable price point? Nikon 12-24 F4?

Or will I still get reasonable results from the Sigma on full frame?

Lastly, I intend to sell the Nikkor 35mm DX and get a nifty fifty.

Any comments, input or suggestions on my plans would be hugely appreciated.

Hi Barney12, the Nikon 12-24 is also a DX lens although I hear it works ok from a certain focal point on full-frame. I think Sigma also do a 12-24 which is full-frame...

The best alternative would probably be the Nikon 14-24 though cheap it ain't, and now Lee make a filter system for it, its big weakness has been overc ome. Sigma's 12-24, as above, is full frame for a more reasonably priced option.

Thanks guys, how did I just know that going full frame was going to HURT my pocket That Nikon 14-24 looks looooverly but might have to try and find a second hand one!

You can use it on your D700 still with crop format until you've enough money to upgrade it so it's not a total disaster

The 10-20 is terrible on FX. The Sigma 12-24 is ok except that mine isn't as sharp as the 10-20 was on the d300. Rather hoping to get the 14-24 later.

The 14-24 is amazing but pricey, unfortunately you don't save a huge amount buying them second hand, they're still around £1000.

On FF, the 10-20 vignettes. A LOT!

The 12-24 Sigma is designed for FF coverage and is significantly wider on FF than the 10-20 is on Dx.

Yes, so I've seen. Mifsuds have one for £1000 ish. Might take a trip to see whats its like in the hand.

Although a DX lens, the 35mm is actually quite usable on FX at close range with wide-ish apertures, just a touch of vignetting on the corners. Given that those are the situations where I tend to use this lens, I decided to keep it for the D700. I do also have a DX camera for it, but it gets used a fair bit on the D700 too.

I use the Sigma 20mm f1.8 although since getting the 24-70 it has rarely been connected to the camera! The 20mm on FF is not as wide as the 10mm of crop though.
