I was doing some star trail photography last night and came across this problem...
D300 set to jpeg, D3s set to jpeg (aperture and shutter speed the same on both cameras) Lens 300f2.8. Set the D3s for 30 second exposure but when it finishes the exposure, it takes nearly as long to process it and show it on the rear screen.
D300, 30 second exposure, as soon as the exposure has finished you can view and take another no waiting.
Is there something I am missing to do with processing time on the D3s??
I can't seem to find anything that would cause this to effect the process time.
 
Long exp noise reduction was on on the D3 and off on the D300 I would think. The long exposure noise reduction does exactly that, takes just as long to process as it did to shoot.

Yep, the noise reduction would have been on on the one that took longer. The Long exp NR is a dark frame reduction, so it requires the sensor to be active, in complete darkness for the same period of time as the shot itself. The processing itself takes hardly any time at all, it's the former point that makes the waiting time so long.
