I have a major problem. My D300 won't turn on! When I went to turn it on this morning I could see the shots remaing on the top LCD, when i turned it on nothing happened. So I took the battery out, put it back in tried to turn it on again and now there's nothing at all, not even the shots remaining.

Its not been dropped or anything, its not even been out of the house sine I last used it (about a week ago).

I've charged the battery, checked all the contacts of both battery and lens, and still nothing happens.

I don't have another battery to check with. But im wondering if its even likely to be the battery seeing as how I was able to charge it.

Has anyone had this happen or know anything I can try? I really don't want to have to send it away, as I can't afford a repair.

Help!

Its only the one battery. The light on the charger showed it as fully charged, but that's the only way I have to check. I might take it to Calumet or jessops and see I'd they have a battery they'd let me try. Im really hoping it is the battery and not the camera!

Just wondering if any of the CF card pins are bent/shorting inside the slot.

If it's not the CF pins (or the battery) I'd try a different lens - I found a page earlier about a D300 being shut down whenver it was used with 70-200 (Nikon, not Tamron).

Also, there was talk of the battery indicator giving a false 'empty' reading and shutting off the camera - apparently it was fixed in a firmware update. Mentioned in 1st post here http://photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00OT2O.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It's just occurred to me that I had my flash on and connected before I tried to turn the camera on. Could this have shorted something or caused a shut off internally?

I doubt it.

Have you tried Graham's above thread (Mr Edd's posts)?
