hi there i'm newbie looking for help with a D3000 that has just stopped switching on
History is that the camera was working fine and one morning would not switch on, not dropped or damaged in any way, the battery is ok and been fully charged. have tried to connect and power up via the mini-USB to no avail? johnny jessop wants £80+ just to send it off with no garantee to find whats up, wondering if it has just locked up somehow and if anyone has had a similar problem with this model
many thanks

Paul.

Sounds like a similar issue to one that affected the D5000. There was a manufacturing fault with one of the components to do with the power switch which could fail and leave you unable to turn it on.
Nikon issued a recall for the affected cameras and changed the part for free. Later models had a different part installer to avoid this.
Might be worth having a chat with Nikon direct...they are in Kingston in Surrey.
