D300s & 16-85

I use that combination all the time and find it excellent. :)

The 16-85mm is a great lens. The best DX lens imho. I like it so much I'm on my 2nd one. :D

All my pics on Alamy and 500px in the links in my sig were taken with that lens, and with either a D300 or D300S. imho, without going two to three times the money, it is the perfect lens for the D300S.
 
thanks. im on my phone at the moment but when i jump on the mac ill have a butchers.

i have one but never used it for landscapes but would like to have a try.
 
Why? Because it has great image quality for a DX lens. The 16mm makes a surprisingly big difference compared to the 18mm to whatever DX lenses. It isn't a huge zoom range which can lead to compromises in the design, but it overlaps nicely with a 70-300mm lens. So much that I don't find myself changing as much as when I had the 18-70mm lens. The build quality is very good too having a metal bayonet fitting.

Above all that I found it a better lens than the Nikon 18-70mm I had previously.

The step above this you start looking at f2.8 zoom lenses which can be twice the price but with a shorter zoom range.

I think it is the best DX lens for quality, zoom range, versatility, price and physical size, and is the perfect lens for me. :) Others may have different views. :shrug: :D
 
I used it exclusively recently on my city break to London (albeit with a D7000), and found the FL and portability perfect. Image quality wise I could really see much of a difference to my faithful 17-55 F2.8 except maybe wide open the 17-55 is a bit sharper. When shooting landscapes however, usually you will be at f8-f11, so any differences disappear.

A really good lens, however if you believe the rumors, Nikon are due to launch a constant F4 aperture version sometime this year (however it will no doubt be quite a bit more expensive).
