D300s card error

Yesterday I was using my D300s using two cards. The SD was set to RAW and the CF set to back up JPEG's. Suddenly the camera just stopped working and the 'number of images left' on the top LCD was blank. Turned camera off and on, no change. Took battery out and in, no change. Pressed preview button to check images and it displayed something like 'this memory card cannot be used, card may be damaged, insert another card'.

Took cards out and put them back in and luckily everything came back. Everything downloaded fine onto my PC later, but I just wonder if anyone knew what the problem could be. Both cards are Sandisk and not very old at all. Thanks for any help.

Northstar,

apologies I've lurked for a while soaking up what info I can but never posted...

Had an identical issue recently, Sandisk Extreme 16gb. Card had minimal use and was no more than a month old. Exactly as you describe, started playing up whilst shooting, failing to display the images and showing the "error" message. Every time the camera was switched off and back on everything was fine.

Downloaded the images and formatted again. Now the card is kaput:bang:
Display just tells me the card is damaged and to replace.

Now I know that the card's corrupted, but as to why ?

Doesn't answer your question i'm afraid but you're not alone!

Bit of a delayed reply Charlie, but that was the same card as mine and mine was a faulty CF card too. Never had trouble with Sandisk SD cards before not sure why the CF would be different.
