D300s confirmation needed please!

While going thru lots of reviews of Nikon D300s, I noticed that in live view, the user was pressing the AF-on button to focus!

Please don't tell me that that is the only option when using live view??

I use AF -on (or did on my D200, but using it on the D5000 is stupid and dead difficult) for normal thru the finder AF, but NOT for live view.

Otherwise, D300s is out. :shake:

I dont fully understand the question tbh. You can manual focus, half shutter button to focus, or af button

In the videos I've just seen, they only mention using the AF-on button for AF during Live view.

Yep, thats the only way to do it Im afraid. Same with all Nikon and Canon DSLR's

That's damned annoying! But no, it's not like that on

Canon 550D, 600D etc and Nikon D5000 & Nikon D90! Why the hell did they do that.

I thought it was on the D90.. meh, never used video on mine so learned something there.

Is it that much of an issue?

Silly as it sounds, yes. I use back button AF when using normal thru viewfinder, but when shooting live view, just can't get used to it. Was one of the big reasons I ditched the EOS 450D & 500D I had last year...

I find the live view pretty useless on the d300s, and you are supposed to be able to autofocus in video mode, guess you can if you dont mind most of your video being OOF!
