D300s v D7000 size-wise.

It's definitely not an age thing as Nikon are still producing cameras that size and larger. I think it's got far more to do with what feels right in your hand whilst having enough room on the body to accommodate as many direct access controls as necessary without them being too close together. The D300 and other cameras that size just feel right to me. I do use smaller DSLR's sometimes and they're handy when you want to travel light but they always feel a little awkward to use. The D7000 or D90 are maybe somewhere in between and are a decent compromise for many.
 
Well i for one have owned a D700 and wouldnt touch another one, theyre toy like in my relativly small hands, the D300/300S with a grip are an ideal size.
 
the D300(s), D700 with grip is ideal size. Definite not an age thing because when you compare the D300 and D7000 the D300 have more control and balance the pro lens better as well.

The D7000 is much better holiday/travel/walkaround camera for me tho :)
 
The D7k does feel small on it's own, with a grip it's quite nice. I find without the grip my little finger has nowhere to go and after a day of shooting it gets quite uncomfortable...I do prefer the ergonomics of semi-pro and pro bodies but then there's the price to go with it which I don't like so much :)
 
I could have lived with it but as a left eye dominant back button focuser it was unusable.
 
I prefer the back button focus on the D300 and pro body etc.

On the D7000 you have to change the back button to focus but then half press on the shutter is no longer focus. So it seperate the two.

On the pro body their is a button call AF at the back where you can use that to focus or use half press on the shutter.

Is all personal preference but i just want to mention the obvious lol
 
You want to try going from a D2x to a D7000.... a whole world of difference :lol:

I like the D7000 as a camera to use but agreed, it is just a little too small at times for my big hands. I've get to invest in a grip (will order one soon), which I'm sure will improve the handling, but the flip side is that I can tuck it (with a 35mm lens) in a small bag and it weighs nothing.

I went from a d2x to d90 without grip...it was a horrible experience that I didn't like lol.

Then again...hello 800 ISO!

Yeah, I went from a D3 to a D700 so the D7k felt like a toy. I'd love that sensor in a D300 body though.
