Hi anybody any ideas I have three year old D300 also new IXUS 130, I love D300 but looking at D300s as it has SLR Video capability anybody any thoughts, is it worth changing to 300s

Never had the D300, my first DSLR was/is the D300s. Great machine in everyway, however if I had the D300 I would not have moved to the D300s for video.Never used the video function for two reasons; it's crap compared to a video camera and DSLR's are for stills not video!!!! or maybe I'm just behind the times.

I'm delighted with mine, before the 300s was out i was looking to get a 300 and glad it took me a little longer to save up. The thing is the 300 price seems to be coming down quite a bit so best do it sooner than later if you are going to do it.

i've shot several videos and it's (probably goes without saying) much better on a tripod, i shot my first wedding on it last month and I videod the exchanging of vows and included that on a DVD with the stills for the lucky couple, they were chuffed to bits :)

It's better than carrying two cameras about my video camera is left at home now

If you have a D300, I personally wouldn't upgrade to the D300s just for the sake of video capability - if video is that important, then get a camcorder! I would have thought an upgrade from D300 would be to a D700.

If video was important and I want to still have a camera I would buy a 5D Mk2,Nikon havent got the hang of the video lark just yet...

Why not get a video camera instead of the ixus and keep the D300?

Having had both, there's really nothing between them but remember the D300 is no longer supported by Nikon for firmware, etc..

I have a Sony DCR-IP7E camcorder (uses micro DV cassettes and comes ith Sony case, charger and 2 batteries, connects with FW) which I would swap for the IXUS if you are interested then it will not have cost you anything for still & video! Let me know if you are interested.

Agree, it's not worth it in its current state.

Not really, the only "upgrade" would be a full frame sensor. Hardly worth the cost of selling a D300 and buying a D700 for twice the price for a fullframe sidegrade.

The only real upgrade to consider is a D3s if you need the speed and want to dabble with the HD video (it's really the only Nikon body I'd consider for any kind of semi-serious video).
