D3100 Android control

Any one know if its possible to control a D3100 with an Android app? I seem to have lost my cable release so I was thinking this might be better than getting another.

Sadly not, I scoured the internet earlier on this year to see if there were any wireless ways of controlling the camera..shutter release etc...

You can buy a cheap cable release on ebay though for a few £'s

Corded is fine.

I had a cheap shutter cable as you describe but its gone awol and I was hoping to use it this weekend for the fireworks so instead of getting another from Camulet I thought it might be better getting a cable from maplin and using an app.

Have actually found a few different types of wireless remote switches on ebay that claim to work with the D3100, using some kind of hotshot attachement I believe.

You could try this app, but you need an OTG cable and a phone/tablet with USB host mode enabled, and even then I don't think live view will work (could be wrong..).

...or just buy a £3 infrared remote on ebay.

Sadly the infrared remote does not work on the D3100.

I'll be in Edinburgh tomorrow and would be prepared to let you borrow my cheap internet cable release for the festival fireworks if you want until you sort out a replacement. I've got a D3100 so I know there's no problems. If you're interested then PM me a number and we can arrange a meet. I do want it back reasonably quickly (within around a week).
