D3100 grip

Bought one ages ago for my son, I have never had a camera without a grip, believe me it IS worth the money.

Quality is VERY good, and remember Nikon and Canon DO NOT make their own grips they are re badged £40 units.

Oh and don't let the price fool you, if you saw it in a photo shop and they had £65 on it, you would buy it, believe me.

JSER you either seem incredibly confused or you're one of these sellers.

The quality on the cheap grips is almost always worse. Canikon do make their own grips (though I'm not sure if nikon make a D3100 grip), what the £40 knockoffs do is either reverse engineer the moulds and use cheaper materials or steal the moulds themselves.
 
You could go for the Meike D3100 grip version ( many have the MB-d10 version than the original Nikon and they recommend Meike) its more expensive £29.99 but it has a 24mth warranty and a review of it can be found Meike review
 
Nikon don't make a grip for the D3100 though.

I have this grip, it is FAR from cheap rubbish. And I am verry fussy.

My Mekie grip for the D700 is great, so I'd be happy to buy one for my D3100.
I'd stear clear from others though as they look cheap and nasty.

Thanks for your reply Jeremy.

Could you confirm if the existing battery cover remains in place and also how awkward is it having the wired connection. Bit concerned about leaving the connection cover open.

Forget the question about the existing battery cover, I've just managed to pull it off.
Panicked at first:eek: but now its back on.

Write to both under the freedom of information act, they will confirm it.

It's obvious really, when you think about it, why would they make their own when they can sub contract, then the manufacturer sell under a different name.

As Nikon don't make a grip for the D3100 the grip has to be wired to the camera, you get used to it, as for the connection cover, this will show that in fact they all just push in if they come out.

I have a wireless remote attached to both my 60D and my sons D3100 and am taking remotes off and putting back all day, none have ever come off, though logically they have to be easy to repair, Canon sell them as a spare through technical/repairs !

Ebay have none yet as the D3100 is new, wait a few months though.

No, JSER. Of course they subcontract to other factories. That doesn't mean they choose an existing product to slap their name on. They make and design it, and then other companies reverse engineer or steal the moulds and make the products themselves. None of your claims make any dent in my saying the moulds are stolen/copied by the cheap knockoff companies.

Meike tend to be okay but a lot of others are really cheap and really nasty, made out of totally different plastics to the real things.

Have you proof that the grips for Canon sold by reputable retailers that are 100% identical are rip offs, if so I assume you have written to the suppliers so they can stand accused of selling such.
