I may be shot down in flames now, but here goes.............

What would upgrading from D3100 to D7100 give me?

I am happy with the quality of the pics from it but have a big birthday coming up so have the chance to upgrade!

Any thoughts? My D3100 is used for lots of purpose, family shots, dog shot, rugby shots etc!

I am shooting with kits lens, 18-200, 50mm 1.8 and and Tamron 70-300.

No budget for new lenses too, so is it a worthwhile upgrade?????
 
no longer a Nikon shooter, but as far as I know it would be a big step up with the D7100 being something of a semi pro body.

Once you've had a camera with a top mounted LCD, you will never go back...it's that useful. Without knowing all the spec though, the 7100 would be a massive step up. If you can afford it why not?
 
More focus points, better build, faster AF, better high ISO, in body motor, top LCD, front and rear command dials to name a few.

The d3100 is still fantastic though.
 
Trust me I recently went from a d5100 to a d7000 and its unbelievably better.
 
The IQ may be, but the usability, the extra af, the af area choices, the quality of build, all well worth it for me and especially as they are a steal at the mo.
Not sure I'd go d7100 but that's just me and money

Well that is a very serious suggestion to sort out your glass first before pouring out money for the bodies. Lenses are always a lot more important, and cheap ones on better body will most likely give very little improvement, if any

But the d7000 has a built in at motor so it widens your option when buying glass and makes it a little cheaper in some cases.

I wouldn't describe the D7100 as a semi pro body. It's more of an enthusiast body similar to the d80,d90, d7k and d600.
