Yes
Spotted in the Panamoz section that they are doing the 5100 for the same UK price as a 3100

Was leaning towards the 3100 but now starting to think that it's a no-brainer and go for the next step up.

I have Googled and done the 3100 vs 5100 search - all seem to point towards the 5100.

But, there is nothing like real experience so would be grateful for any comments from users of both models. What I am reading at the moment is the big differences are the LCD screen and ISO.

At the moment I am trying to find out which is the older model - does anyone know?

This camera deciding lark seems never ending :help:

The d5100 is a better sensor which is found in a host of cameras and is the best performing aps-c sensor on the market apparently. You will Find it in the nex-c3/nex5n/d7000/d5100/k-5 and a few other alpha models too.

If it's a straight comparison between the two without a price difference then the D5100 is clearly the better camera.

The LCD screen is a big thing for me. I can't stand looking at photos on a low res screen. Better ISO performance is never a bad thing.

It's also slightly faster. Oh and don't forget the D5100 has the articulating screen whereas the 3100 is fixed.

So I guess the question you really need to ask yourself is:

"What's more important? Camera features or UK warranty in case something goes wrong?"

Only you can answer that question. But personally I'd be leaning towards the D5100.

Which retailers are doing those cameras for the same price? I'm interested to know as I've been monitoring the prices for quite some time and have noticed the price of the D5100 dropping but not to the extent of the D3100. I think at the moment, there is about £100 difference in the cost of the bodies.

'Panamoz' its a store in Hong Kong. I think the d5100 is about to be replaces so prices have started to come down.

That's the one to look for.

Last time I went into PC World the 5100 was priced down too - but nowhere near the Panamoz price.

I have another 2 weeks or so before I can part with the cash so will be tracking prices all over the place especially if it is due to be replaced.

Like it has already been said - it's now Price vs UK Warranty.

I've just bought a D7000 from panamoz as the price difference was too big to ignore.

Ask yourself this, do you think the warranty and peace of mind is worth the £100 price difference?

I've never looked into it but there must be 3rd party companies who would sell you a warranty for less if it was a concern?
