D3200 or D5200 + Advice on lenses and starting guides?

Hey!

I am beginning to do dslr photography, I am taking the subject as a GCSE (UK examination qualification)

I have done some research and need some advice on the following:

Should I get the Nikon D3200 or the D5200?
The D3200 is definitely easier in terms of price.

Will I still be able to get really great quality images out of the D3200 and do pretty much anything?

Also in terms of lenses, I mainly want to do close up and midshot photography.
Advice? Where can I find some cheap lenses? How do I know if a lens by a third party eg. Tamron is compatible with a camera?

Also what starting video/reading material do you recommend? I'm considering buying the froknowsphoto.com 3 hour course, it seems good.

Hi id say the d3200 is more than capable for your needs. As far as lens you just need to ensure they have a built in motor or the af wont work.

The 18-55 kit lens is good but id say the nikon 55-300 is a good cheap tele photo lens and I have the 60mm tamron f2 macro. Its a great lens for portrait and macro.

Digital rev is a cheap place to buy lenses.

The OP is a student with limited funds
The D3200 is a very high resolution camera that will easily fulfil the requirements mentioned
Keep the difference towards lenses
I would go further in saying that the previous generation camera - the d5100 would be entirely suitable for your needs and would also be available at reasonable cost
I would also consider the Pentax K30 which has the added bonus of dust and weather sealing along with similar levels of IQ albeit with a more limited selection of lenses available
The cost of these will be falling now as there is a newer model out - K50
