D3s vs D700

I've got a D3S arriving on Monday and I'm trying to decided if I'm keeping it and gettin a D300 as my 2nd body. The other option is to sell in and have two D700's.

My question is how much difference would I notice between the D3S and the D700? I know about the faster fps, but at the same iso how much difference is there? Is there anything else that I should compare between them?

If he can discover that difference within the first few days of owning a D3s, I think the Army Machine Gun Corps would be very interested in a new recruit:lol:



More useful for the OP - there's plenty of comparisons out there showing you how the ISO's compare and so on, I'm sure a moments googling will find you a ton of boring reviews and brick walls - but how about this : I've met at work plenty of pro photographers with the original D3 - and they they all said how much they love their D3, but they lust over the D3s. None of them have ever expressed any interest in having two D700's instead - then they just step in, quietly take the one perfect shot, and are gone before anyone notices.:thumbs:

what work do you do?
 
I have got 2 d700 bodies, before I got the 2nd I did think about the D3s, it is without doubt an awesome piece of kit, the iso range is unbelievable, but unless that is needed in the line of work you do are you ever going to see the benefits?:shrug:

Yes I know the shutter life span is twice as long as the D700, but in the real world a D700 shutter should be good for 5 years or more, so my money is on that you will be looking for an upgrade long before this is an issue.

If I was to win the lotto or something, then yeah I would get a D3s, but it comes down to the fact that I WANT one, not NEED 1.

Just my tuppence worth, by the way.:)
 
I have the D3s and the D300. I personally find it a perfect combination. Although I have to admit that I rarely use the D300. I tend to use the D3s 99.9% of the time.

I have both, and upgraded from two d700s at the end of last year. The d3s is no doubt a nicer camera and a far bigger upgrade then often realised, but most of that upgrade is in terms of handling etc.etc. I know I'll got shot for this, but if you're shooting at the top end of the d3s or d700 iso capability then you have more issues with the quality of light available normally. I rarely, if ever pushed either camera to its full capabilities.

TBH the d3s was a heart decision for me, unless you really need the extra bits it give you then a d700 is more then enough camera and in the real world, unless you shoot boring brick walls you'll never tell the difference. Having said all that though I do shoot 99% of the time with the d3s

I was thinking exactly the same yesterday when I saw someone posted the ISO 25,600 comparisons, but being a bit of an amateur didn't like to say, glad you did ;)
