D4 Auto ISO

The handbook that came with the camera is not very good at explaining how the ISO is best used. I don't know if I go shutter or aperture priority or manual.
I have set max ISO in the menu of 12,800 and a min shutter speed of 1/320, mainly to cover up to a 300 lens. Any advice on how best to use auto ISO would be appreciated.
I used shutter priority for planes, bikes etc but not sure what to do for static shots in poorest light where ISO 100 is not enough

For really poor light, I'd go aperture priority and set a minimum shutter speed of whatever the focal length is e.g. 1/50th second for a 50mm lens. Unless it has VR of course, in which case choose whatever speed you feel comfortable hand holding

D4 will adjust shutter depending on what focal length you use, if you set it up correctly.
