Just taken delivery of a new Nikon D4 and amazed to see no protector on the LCD screen. D300, d3s etc have one fitted so is this another economy measure?

Wonder why they dropped it. my D300 has one and I think the D700 did but not sure

Don't realy know Merv. I was at Nikon HQ earlier in the year and was advised that the plastic screen protectors make it harder to check for image sharpness - I took mine off my d700 and certainly the IQ on the LCD looked better.

I've never had anything on my D3s and it still looks perfect.
 
D3 doesn't either as nikon doesn't make them for the "newer" Dx line of cameras it seems. I've just ordered some GGS protectors from ebay for my D3 which have the back and top LCDs covered nicely.
 
I used them on my D3s and still do on my D300. But the lcd's on the pro models are supposed to be a lot 'harder' and resistent to scratching etc. I'm not going to bother on the D4.

Did you go to the Scott Kelby photowalk yesterday, didn't see you when I was driving past?

We use a D3x in work with no screen protector and even after 90000 shots the screen is still scratch free, although to be fair it's never really out of the studio. Having said that I would always have protectors on my own camera.

Mifsuds tell me that the D4 screen is hardened material and doesnt need a protector so there you are

I was in Belfast yesterday doing a bit of shopping, seen all the togs heading round the side of the city hall but I didn't spot you.
 
I've always taken any protective covers off my cameras (for visibility reasons). Didn't miss it on the d4.
