help with Nikon D40.............

there's a small hair seen next to one of the focusing marks [ ]

not on lens, nor eyepiece

carefully airbrushed mirror and plate about mirror

did NOT do a mirror lockup

does not appear on image - so "guess" not on sensor ?

ideas? potential problem ?...

thanks

What the other said, my 40x has/had this. Never caused me bother [except annoyance at seeing a hair ]

:agree:

Give it a careful blast with rocket blower, but do NOT touch it with end of blower, they mark very easily. If that doesn't shift it, would not worry about it as long as its not affecting images. Get a specialist to clean/service at some point.

ok thanks

Can the screen be removed on a D40? If so it's easy to clean. If the hair is on the top-side - i.e. the bit you can't reach through the lens-mount, then it could be a bit tricky...

The screen is really easy to remove on the D40 - I did this to fit a Katz-Eye to mine - it's only held in with a spring clip. You have to be careful not to drop/lose the spacer that goes between the screen and the body though. Without that it won't focus properly afterwards :)

There is a small key on the screen that ensures that it goes back in the right way round.

Hold the body upside-down when doing this and nothing will fall out.

well 50% successful

got the spring clip "up" but couldn't see how to raise the screen off its base
without thin screwdriver or knife point - decided, no-no...:shake:

anyhow gave a blast of air at each side of screen
hair gone - prob still in there but at least off the screen

thanks to all....
