Afternoon All.

I'm looking for direct comparison/recommendations for someone who has had or has both these on the D500 please.

I'm in the process of getting a Nikon 70-200 2.8 (to replace my siggy) and id like to add a 200-500 or siggy 150-600 (prob sport) money wise they are about the same give or take a little, I'm mainly into sports stuff (motocross, football etc) but would like to try BIF and other such things, so I can chose when I go out.

looking through my sports stuff, my average is around the 100-175mm range, so I'm thinking the 200-500 might be too long for sports but I do tend to get closer so i don't have to ask my siggy to much at 200mm.

I'm mainly thinking IQ and focus speed but also price will have a slight factor as it prob won't be my most used lens.

cheers (y)

Well IMO the siggy (c version) tends to hunt a little more than the 200-500 also the 200-500 does appear to lock on faster and be more reliable.
IQ not a lot in it to be honest just the 200-500 seems to be faster and have a better keeper rate.
If your average length tends to be 100-175 well the 70-200 is perfect for that and you could always get a 1.4 or even a 2TC for it that would give you a 140-400 5.6?

stick to the nikon 200-500 i have it its a killer combo
also you know it will work on future nikon cameras
not like 3rd party lens's

Not a bad idea, never really thought about a TC, will it affect focus speed or anything ? Could be an option 20-200 vr2 and 200-500 is realistically 2k, could prob go new 70-200 FL and TC and save a few quid ?

I do like the images eveone posts with the 200-500 hence why it’s in my ‘want’ list

I cant say I have tried the 70-200 vr2 with a 2x as I don't have one only a 1.4 and I have not noticed any lack of speed with that combo.
In all honesty I don't think I would part with my 200-500 + the 200-500 works great with the 1.4 tc lol.
And my Siggy is going to a mate (I would not sell him it if I did not rate it as a good lens)
