Hi all
got my Nikon D5000 out today and i think it may be broken
every shot i take the mirror stays up for longer than usual even shooting at 1500 of a sec the mirroe seems so slow no setting have changed since last used battery fully charged and have even done a factory reset all to no avail
it feels like i am doing time exposures of 2-3 seconds

As an update just did a firmware update also still no change :(

Anyone have any ideas ?

I know some nikons have a shutter delay setting where it puts the mirror up a couple of seconds before taking the exposure (sort of an automatic mirror lock up).
Any chance you have a setting like this switched on?
But that shouldn't be turned on after factory reset, so perhaps it is a fault.

2 second delay only works with the remote (i think) and the D5000 doesn't have a mirror up setting
and Adam your right it shoudn't be on after factory reset or firmware upgrade

It should have a timer setting for without the remote. That's the point of the timer, for when you don't have a remote release.
 
Check menu C3 isnt on, shouldnt be, but check anyway, I presume you aren't in live view, as that will delay the shutter....
 
Does the 5000 have a quiet mode? - on the 3100 it makes little difference to the noise but make it very slow.
 
Does it happen in every mode? eg Aperture Priority, Manual, Programme etc.

It was D5 exposure delay mode it was set to on not sure how or why but my camera is now back to normal

The 'Quiet Mode' on D5000 . . . that will do it, check its switched off.

Glad to know you've sorted it.

Seems very odd that setting didn't default to off when you did a factory reset though.
