Having problems with my timer control on my D5000.

I'm looking at doing a star trail tonight. When I set the timer control on my D5000 I just set it to 1 second intervals and 14 intervals just as a trial before I go out, but it only manages 2 shots and then stops?

Help required please.
 
A couple of things.

How long are your exposures? If I'm taking shots for 30s (always use manual for this by the way) then I'll set the timer to take a shot every 32 seconds rather than every one second. The shots will then be taken 2 secs apart.

The other thing. Make sure long exposure noise reduction is turned off. Otherwise, the camera will spend the majority of its time processing the images rather than actually taking shots.
 
I set the timer to 32 seconds and it now takes a shot every 32 seconds? I want a seamless interval so there are no gaps in my star trail?

I also turned LE NR off. Argh

Are you taking 30 second exposures?
 
One other thing. You are using manual focus? If the camera is trying to focus between shots this could well screws things up.

Just in case I wasn't clear earlier, the 32 second interval was in light of the fact that my exposures were 30 seconds long. Had I been shooting six second exposure (for example) I'd have selected something like a 7 second interval as it seems that D5000 timer runs from when the previous shots shutter was opened rather than when it is closed.
