d5100 fn/self timer button - help

can anyone (in easy terms) explain how this button works ?

I have set the fn button to allow control of iso - so when i press and hold the button and turn control wheel iso can be changed - and it does.

How do i now get the button to give me self timer ?

The other thing i noticed is that turning the control wheel after just pressing timer/fn button puts an * next to the release mode (in my case P for program mode) turning it back and forward turns the * off and on.

help please i'm confused.

As far as I understand it just pressing the Function button and releasing it toggles Self timer on and off. Holdinf the function button down and rotating the control wheel adjust whatever you have assigned to the button (in your case ISO). Pages 38 and 165 in the manual.
