D5100 off camera flash

I'm new to all this and feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the choice out there.

I got my D5100 at Christmas and decided I wanted to try and improve my portraits by using a dedicated flash gun so bought a Sunpak PZ42x.

Question is, how do I tell what wireless triggers are compatible, as I cant see how to tell what is suitable for my camera/flash combination?

You should be okay as long as it says it's for Nikon. Everyone recommends the Yongnuo RF-602 or 603 so they should work as desired. I searched on ebay for 'nikon flash trigger' and got a lot of choice.... I expect you have your own way of selecting ebay sellers so won't lecture you on it. Note that the RF-602/3 won't give iTTL so you have to use manual flash control. If you want iTTL then look at the Phottix Strato or Pixel Bishop or Knight but be prepared to pay several times the price of the Yongnuos.
