I am getting an intermittent message "no SD card inserted" from my Nikon D5100 which is causing me to miss shots when out with t' camera
I've changed cards, formatted them, but it still persists
Any ideas, kind folks?

Contact pins in the camera might have dirt on them, maybe even broken! Had the problem with the d5200. Luckily happened 3 days after buying it so changed it back at the shop I bought it from!

Check the metal strips on your card. There may be one pushed out of alignment.

Thanks guys for the responses!

Check the metal strips on your card. There may be one pushed out of alignment. - Card changed, including new purchase
Any sign of dust in the card socket. - Er, there must be a way of checking this? (blowing, sucking??)
Tried a different card -
See above

Doh!

What sort of cards are you using?

Are they all the same brand?

I had an issue with my d7000 when I first bought it second hand, it would not always recognise there was a card inserted. It also just 'dropped out' recognising a card was inserted midway through shooting. As it was still under warranty I had it sorted out by nikon, I think they replaced the memory card slots. At first it was case of turn off camera, take out and reinsert memory card to sort it but since the repair I've had no issues.

Last two are SanDisk SDHC 8gb and SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s 8gb (New)
Both have been involved in the problem, so I guess it's the slot in the camera?
