D5100 Vs. D7000

Ok, so I went into a local camera shop in Leatherhead this morning asking for advice on the D5100 Vs. the D7000. The guy in the shop was so over the top in favour of the D5100 ("I would NEVER recommend a D7000 over a D5100") that I'm now thinking he had an agenda as he was really pushing a D5100 kit.

So I thought I'd pose the question here:

I'm looking for a fast low light camera (I'm definitely marrying either one up with a Sigma 50mm f1.4) and would like to know the difference between the two (apart from a couple of hundred quid body only)

Any advise would be gratefully received.

Pretty much everything is better, the D7k is a bargain imo.
 
That was my initial thinking after looking on-line at various comparison websites. That's why I thought I'd post it on here, but DigitalRev seem to be dithering about an answer
 
They can obviously make more profit/shift old stock off the D5100 kit, would you trust a salesperson over camera users and review sites?!
 
If you can afford the extra quids get the D7k. The Sigma 50 is fantastic.
 
I've had both. The only advantage the D5100 has over the D7000 is the articulated screen.

That's it.
 
I can see a pattern emerging here!!

It's still a poor show when you think how many people must innocently pop in there and come out with something inappropriate for their needs

And this is the reason I am against people selling stuff they don't know anything about.

I believe that if you are selling a product, you should know that product inside out.

In this case it's either the salesman has profits in mind, or doesn't know about his products.

In either case, the person that suffers is the customer.
 
It's the age-old issue with retailers.... they buy the stock they think will sell or tjhe stock that has been heavily discounted or is on offer by the wholesaler/distributor/manufacturer; punters buy something else despite the retailer pushing that product, then they're left with a load of stuff that they have to push harder. You can't blame them - it's stock that needs to be shifted - but it does raise questions about how some retailers actually see the market and how 'in touch' with market trends they are.

I'd buy a D7000 every time - best DX sensor camera ever IMO.
 
you should ask in a shop what are the real differences between them cameras, see how many he can name :)

I think he pushing D5100 cos it has vari-angle lcd :)
 
Just to play devil's advocate a little here but the cameras share exactly the same sensor and so IQ, low light performance etc are identical. If the additional features of the D7000 were surplus to requirements to the OP then you could argue that the D5100 is the better suited camera and a useful amount cheaper too. After all the D5100 ticks all of the OP's requirement boxes and is quite a bit lighter than the D7000 too.
