Yes
just wondered if anyone uses active D lighting or is it considered a pointless gimmick ?

Is it something you switch on and forget or is it only for certain siuations ?

Bearing in mind i never use it I'd be interested to hear what others think

Thanks in advance

Err yeah I use it quite a bit. Generally I leave it on all the time unless I'm doing fast action sports shots, where it does slow the capture speed down and I just want to fire off 10 shots in a row. It does bring out some nice detail in darker areas. Nothing you can't fix in post processing anyway with it off, but it's a nice feature all the same

I just leave it on, I don't think it can make the photo's worse...

Yeah it brings detail out in shadows, but i only use it post shot. i think all Nikon camera's now have this feature in their menu's.

I always tend to leave it on on my D300. It dosent make the image any worse and does bring out detail.

I leave it off since I usually forget that it needs to be off to get the best FPS/Burt results.

I usually try applying it to some of the images I have already taken, seems to work ok.

If you shoot raw, it doesnt really matter if its on or off. Its just like finishing a pic off in the camera ready for printing. I usually shoot with it off as it slows the camera well down especially if NR is on as well.

Yes, Active-D is only applied in camera when you shoot jpeg. If you want it on your NEF's you can apply it in CaptureNX afterwards (whether you had it switched on or off at capture time)
