D600 remote cable go ?

I've looked on the net but can't find where do you put the remote shutter cable in ?
Normally on the pro Nikon camera's there are the two terminal flaps on the front left but it doesn't also show on the side where the other cables go in either, surely as it says in the spec that the shutter goes to 30sec, it must have bulb. :thinking:

I've just been looking at the D600's user manual - thinking of buying a couple in a few months time - and was beginning to think it didn't have a remote cable capability. However I finally found reference to it (on page 298)!

The socket is located on the left hand side of the camera body. There are 3 flaps and the cable release goes in the little one at the bottom (towards the front of the body). It's not the usual 10-pin circular connector but looks (from the manual diagram) like a mini-USB.

Did you know it also has IR remote too, with receivers on both the front and rear? Nikon must have been reading all the moans on TP :lol:

Normally I only read the manuals for things I already own but thought if I'm thinking of shelling out on a couple of these then I'd better see if they're what I actually want ... and they may not be.

TBH, I find the D600 manual even more perplexing than any of the others I've read. Makes you wonder if they just got someone to cut and paste bits from half a dozen other manuals and forgot to check it afterwards :D

Just waiting for prices to drop a bit more, if you're buying two you could save couple of hundred !

Hi Gramps, hope you had a good Christmas :thumbs:

The more I read about the D600 the more I feel it's firmly rooted in the consumer bracket. As I said above, it's more of a D7000 than a D700 with all the fancy scene modes. These are things I neither need nor want on a camera I'm planning to use every day. I know the arguement that you don't have to use it but the lack of this automation is part of what differentiates consumer and pro bodies (IMHO).

Don't get me wrong, I think Nikon are onto a winner here but I'm not at all sure I'll be joining the list of owners.

i would love to get the D600 but everywhere i read owners have dust/oil on the sensors. seems a major issue with them and that it keeps re appearing every few hundred shots

I've also read some of these reports but it is unclear how many are actual and how many are heresay/repeated complaints :)
 
It's a shame as it seems such a great camera
