D610 L plate - any recommendations?

I am looking for an l plate for my d610 to fit a Manfrotto 3 way head. All the ones I can find are Arca compatible any idea if they fit the Manfrotto?
 
You might be able to find a generic manfrotto type one

Or you can get a arca Swiss clamp for 7+ quid off eBay and use that
 
@pingu666 Many thanks for the reply. I have looked at Manfrotto site and their plate is expensive and blocks access to the connections on the side of the camera.
On a more positive note the ebay site seems to infer that Arca Swiss can be used on Manfrotto.

In a nutshell I want to buy an l plate which will be fitted to my camera and then will slot into the Manftotto head to change from landscape to portrait.
I can see me buying a less expensive/more useful one and trying it out.
 
If you poke about you can get a generic L arca Swiss plate for 5 quid probably

I don't know how invested you are in manfrotto, so switching to arca may or may not be suitable

But on my monopod I'm using a manfrotto tilt head, and got a arcs Swiss clamp on the manfrotto plate... and it works ok. I do plan to get a different head, but that's what I backed into.
 
Hi guys, That looks like the one I was thinking of getting/will get and then hope it fits the Manfrotto head. After all only £10 where the Manfrotto is £100+

It won't fit, it's Arca-Swiss type - which is the best quick-release system and pretty much standard with higher end tripod gear. There are three ways of making it fit, a) buy an Arca-Swiss type clamp (from about a tenner) and simply screw it onto your Manfrotto plate - hardly ideal, but works; b) remove the Manfrotto clamp and replace with the Arca-Swiss - can be done, sometimes a piece of cake, other times a PITA; c) buy a new Arca-Swiss type head.

That universal L-bracket linked above is amazing value and works well, except that the corner joint is sharp and sticks out, digging into your palm. You can make it much better by taking a file to it. You can remove quite a lot of metal without affecting the strength too much, but the one-piece custom-fit ones are much more comfortable. You may also have to make some accommodation for any sockets etc you want to access on the camera's left-hand end. Can be a lot of faffing about but a good fitting L-bracket really does make life easier if you use a tripod a lot - fit and forget :thumbs:
 
Thanks @HoppyUK for the advice. As usual I thought that it would be simple - buy a decent tripod head to replace my cheapy one, buy an l plate and good to go.

I have ordered the plate above and looks like I will have to buy a different head :(

I will have to wait till it all gets here then try to juggle and buy whats needed. I saw a plate that says it converts Manfrotto to Arca or the other way round (now I am completely dizzy) but that was £60.

What I want to be able to do is swap my camera from landscape to portrait when taking macros and panos/landscapes - not a great ask.

So if anyone can recommend a specific adaptor/plate that will join the two together I will be eternally grateful if not I will be looking for a different head and someone will get a bargain Manfrotto head

Yes, I think that would work - assuming the stem of your Manfrotto head has a squared-off peg to locate into the cross shape recess underneath the Arca-Swiss clamp.

Manfrotto heads usually have that fitting, though I'm not 100% sure all of them do. Have a look, or even take the Manfrotto clamp head off to check if needs be. That's not easy if it's been Loctite'd in - needs local heat on the bolt to loosen.
 
Hi guys, an update. The l plate was received today despite being told it would be 2nd March - all good.

Well packed and it looks very good quality - a smooth black finish with the rubber pads to sit against the camera.

Of course it doesn't fit on my Manfrotto, as expected, but what is a bit annoying is that it does fit on my original DIAT ph 10 ball head.

Going back to the l plate it fits nice and snuggly but covers the door to the port which connects my gps unit and will stop me from tethering I think, 2 reasons I wanted to buy one.

I have also ordered the conversion plate so I can get it on my Manfrotto
