D700 Battery Grip Question

Ok, I have the D700 battery grip. But to speed it to 8fps you either need 8 AA batteries or a D3 battery.

So here are my questions:


If you have the knowledge, please take a moment to answer my questions!

The grip only holds one battery I think. The charger is a rip off even by photography standards.

It clips onto the end of the battery - there's a little locking latch.

The BL-3 Adapter for EN-EL4/EN-EL4a used with MB-D10 Grip for D300/D700. It helps the camera quicken the continuous shutter speeds,increases the frames from 6/S to 8/S.

If you've got a genuine MB-D10 the BL-3 is the correct cover for using EN-EL4 or EN-EL4a batteries.

See page 4 of MB-D10 manual.

I've read somewhere online that the bl-3 covers for some aftermarket grips will not fit an original Nikon grip due to slight differences in the build of each grip. Will try and dig the link out.

thats the correct one for the Will's grip, and should clip onto the end of the battery he's posted above. Will if you are having issues can you post a photo of the grip and battery

It's definitely the BL-3 for an MB-D10 Grip, not sure why scotties isn't fitting correctly. as regards the MH-21 Quick charger it's a total rip off as far as I'm concerned, £130 for any charger is, i use the MK-MH-21 mentioned on here and it works a treat, it even chargers the EN-EL3E batteries as well, which the more expensive one doesn't, however i have another charger (not the MK-MH-21)for the EN-EL4A type batteries which i have still in the packaging i only opened it to test and it works fine, has a 2 pin plug though, but comes with adaptor, if your interested you can have it for £20 delivered picture below :)

Scott did you buy it from Link Delight.

Can't find the link to the article I have previously read refering to some incompatabilities but did find this quote on a thread on DP Reviews dating back to 2009

Link delight also sells a custom BL-3 that fits
their grip so you can use the EL-EN4/4a battery.

I almost gave up on link delight after hearing
that the Nikon BL-3 does not fit it, but
with a link delight BL-3, i'm considering it again.

Hi Will,

I have the MB-D10, BL-3 and EN-EL4a and yes even without the battery the BL-3 should fit flush with the battery grip. I noticed that my BL-3 isn't identical to Scott's. I only have the green symbol above the catch not the other. Can post pictures if you like?

Would that be this MK_MH-21 one by anychance Tel :shrug:

Just that I was looking at one of those before I got a Nikon MH-21 from a TP member a little while ago.... Do they actually charge a Gen Nikon EL4a as well - just for future reference really...

That's the one Steve, and like i say it works fine, as for will it charge a genuine Nikon battery i can't answer that as mine are third party Phottix ones, however i can't see any reason why it wouldn't, if your anywhere near Milton Keynes your welcome to bring your Nikon battery over to try on my charger :)
 
Careful...!

I've got a genuine en-el4 that won't charge on anything but the Nikon charger.
 
Phottix do a conversion for the MB-D10 that comprises an EN-EL4a and a BL-3 type endpiece that has a charger built in, meaning all you need do is plug the battery into the mains to charge it.

If you do a search on TP I wrote a review (with pics) of it a while back...

Will cost you a fair bit.

As long as you have a genuine MB-D10 then and a genuine BL-3 you can get the rest on third party, that's my setup anyway, i have the MK-MH21 charger, and a couple of phottix EN-EL4a batteries, i got the Phottix ones as they are a decent brand name,I've never had any trouble to date and use them on my D700 and D300, the batteries were about £30 each and the charger about £40 :)

Can you link me to the batteries please? Which go with your charger...

The link is in Trigs post in post 29, that is the charger i have, you will have to look on ebay for the Phottix batteries though, the charger i offered you will charge those Phottix ones though, their are no end of third party EN-EL4a batteries on ebay, just try and make sure you get a branded one like Phottix :)

Stick a wants ad in the classifieds or have a word with "Taz" aka Ian <Taz profile page> as he seems to have a few things that people are wanting....
