D700, D3s, D3X, or wait and see what comes out?

Well i have had some really good news at work and i'm getting a bonus the end of this month, that would see me able to purchase a Nikon D700 plus a Nikkor 85mm f1.4G to add to my 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200. The question is, i get made redundant in June, and when all is done, including shares, etc, i'm looking at a whole lot more to play with moneywise. The question is, do i go for a D700 and keep my mint, as new D300s, or do i go for a D3s in April, and sell my D300s, or wait until June, and treat myself to a D3X? I had a play with a D700 today, and i have to say, back to back comparison with my D300s in the shop, the D700 is in a different league! the only other question i have, is do i wiat to see what is around the corner from Nikon?:thinking:

The deciding factor will be whatever you shoot. Not how much you have to throw at it really.
If you're thinking of the 85mm 1.4G, I assume that you are shooting portraits/studio work? If so, then I would probably be looking at the D3x.
I never see the point in waiting to see what 'may' be around the corner. Just get what you need now and enjoy using it.
If low light is likely to be an issue, buy the D3s and enjoy iso's that you never dreamed that you could use.

I find i shoot mainly portraits, yet also enjoy landscapes, seascapes, and archetictural photography, too. Love the very clean images of the D700. May plump for that instead and maybe use the other money elsewhere and keep the D300s for when i go to Santapod, to catch the dragsters:thumbs:

i tend to agree with you there, it's just that i often wondered whether the D700 would have been a better camera with a higher pixel count, (which one would assume the D800 would have?), or would that in itself, compromise the clean images that it produces.
 
i think the d700 is truely awsome, would i love a d3s yes but would i take 2 d700 over a d3s yes i would.
i would keep the d300s, i would not get rid of mine as the extra reach is so handy.
when the d400 comes out the d300 will go and a d400 will replace it, and when the new d800 comes out hopefull the prices of the d700 will come down abit more and i will get another one of them. i found the d700 at iso 12800 to be a little cleaner than the d300 at iso 6400.

I put my Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 on the D700, took a few test shots, at iso 200 and iso 1000, then did the same tests on my D300s, and the D700 IS in a different league. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! LOL!!!!
