Evening all, I had my first ever Studio shoot today, a kind chap at my local Studio let me come in this evening and had a Photographer show me the ropes.

He was using a D700, i have the D7000

He told what to set my camera too 1/125, F8, iso 100

I kept knocking the shutter speed, increasing it to 1/160 & 1/200 he said lock it, but can i do this on D7000, i had a quick flick through his menu and he can lock Aperture and Shutter speed. Is this possible on the D7000? I can't find anything in my menu, is there a work around? tried using U1 but i can still change it

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much - 1/160th and 1/200th are under your sync speed so it's not an issue with all-flash. In manual you have rear and front selector dials to change aperture/shutter - just get out of the habit of using them like you would in auto modes and you'll be sound :thumbs:

BTW, pics look bang on :)
 
i tend not to use Auto modes, i just kept knocking the shutter for some reason, probably not while im shooting maybe when i have the camera down by my side.

Exposure is spot-on Daniel - they look absolutely fine, don't knock what you've shot :thumbs:

You should be able to lock your shutter speed when in manual by scrolling all the way through the slowest shutter speeds and past B (bulb) to x250 - this is a locked sync speed that can't be altered when you scroll the wheel. I have my rear command dial set for shutter so my forefinger controls the aperture (the key thing for getting exposure with flash) which I will only change on purpose and not by accident because of where it's placed :)

1/200 is definitely over nearly all studio lights and 1/160 is pushing it for many.
