Dont know how many people suffer this with their D700 and SB900 but I accidentally found a work around at the weekend that panned out for me.
Dont use the lever to clip the flash into place.
I'd previously pressed down on the hot shoe rails to hold things tighter and in doing so it clamps down with good force and doesnt require the latch / lever on the SB900 to be flicked over.
Shot over 600 shots on Saturday night in a club and it didnt do its usual nonsense of strobing or not flashing
Obviously not a complete fix but thought I would let folks know.
