Oo ooo ooo.....

Just ordered a spangley new D700 from Digital Depot and due to arrive here on Thursday :) £1669 inc delivery, new with 2 years warranty.

I have reserved a 24-70 too but I can't afford it until next month when I get paid.

You've done well there! I had a look at their site yesterday and it was showing as £1749.00. (and still is). How did you manage to get that price?

Chris :)

Mentioned TP and I am buying the lens as well. I had actually been looking at the lens and getting the camera next month but got the camera earlier instead.

Thanks Darren.

The camera will be with you Thursday. I need to register it on the Nikon Plus Scheme and activate your 2 year warranty when it arrives but you will soon have it in your hands.

Enjoy.

Stuart

Excellent, I am really looking forward to it. Just a shame I couldn't get the 24-70 with it but it will be something to look forward to next month. I'll be selling one of my AF50 f1.8 lenses then and replacing it with a AFS50 f1.4

Well done Stuart

I have just bought an almost new one otherwise I would be hassling you for a deal.

Why do you have to register the D700. It is something that I usually do after I purchase a camera by registering it. Am I missing something?

Chris :)

This is a really good reason to buy from a UK premier or pro dealer!!

If you do so then they register you with Nikon and your 2 year warranty is sorted from the start PLUS and this is a great one... You get FREE membership of an exclusive club, the Nikon PLUS scheme this gets you discounts off further stuff so I get (to start with!) the following vouchers:

£150 off AF-S 14-24 f2.8
£50 off SB900
£10 off EN-EL3e
£50 off AF-S 50mm f1.4
£80 off AF-S 70-300 f4.5-5.6 G VR IF ED

The vouchers change every 3 months and are valid for 3 months!!

After I get the 24-70 next month I am getting a AFS 50mm f1.4 on the cheap :)

The scheme is a great way for you to remain loyal to your retailer as the vouchers are only valid at the retailer where you purchased your camera.

The vouchers are valid for 3 months but as the scheme is relatively new im still not 100% sure what happens after the 3 months.

Stuart

All the cameras get a set of vouchers and the vouchers change for each camera. For example if you buy a D90 you can get £100 off an 18-200 or £30 off a AFS35mm.

You'll not regret it - with the 50mm AF-S 1.4 it's a great combination

My current lenses are:

Full frame

Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 (X2 !!)
Nikon AF-S 105mm f2.8 vr
Tamron SP 35-80 f2.8-3.8 (bought for my wife to use as macro but it does not work AT ALL on the D40x)

Cropped

Nikon AF-S 18-55 f3.5-5.6 VR DX
Nikon AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR DX IF

So I've not got much choice at the moment on the D700 but will be getting the 24-70 at the end of NEXT month and then I will look around for a 70-300 or similar 2nd hand film lens for long shots. They are not normally my bag but it is nice to have the option. I will eventually get a quality 70-200 lens next year.

I am going to convert the D1x to full time IR (or sell it) and pass the D200 to MRS C when I find a D300 (I like having two bodies and it would be nice if I can have one grip that works on both).

What a great combination, a D700 and a 24-70. You have turned me a very unpleasant shade of green :p

How long 2 days must feel

Congratulations you lucky chap

Congratulations , and may I say that's a wonderful deal offered by Digital Depot

Also, should I mention this ... you may be getting a Sigma 20/1.8 with a 82mm Heliopan CP next week, or the week thereafter ;) . . . ... (to be continued) :p

Congrats - you'll love the D700 with the 24-70 - pin sharp images. Wouldn't mind a 70-200 f/2.8 myself - but waiting to see if Nikon will release a new version soon as a friend of mine just returned from the U.S. where 2 different dealers informed him that this lens is now unavailable for re-order from Nikon and is no longer being produced, as a new version will be here this year - We'll see.

Thats very interesting. Not heard that from Nikon UK, but ill definately keep my ear to the ground. There a few lenses that could do with updating and the 70-200 has been impossible to get hold of for months.

Stuart

Will just say Stuart that is a brill offer to TP members and as I'm contemplating a D700 I'd definately talk to you first.

Actually, there is a whole thread, or two, about these rumoured new lenses by Nikon.

Add to that, NikonRumors seem to be 100% certain of a couple new lenses coming this Thursday :suspect:!

Lets hope one of them is a AFS 600mm f1.4 vr for £99

fingers crossed

I'm trying my best to find a seat for me to accompany the lens :p ... have been trying for a couple of weeks, but flights are packed! Will have a good and hard attempt tomorrow. Otherwise, a longish, and an alternate route, would be needed

It seems that you're celebrating the D700 a bit too much with some nice bubbly! Either that, or you know something I don't

and still no mention of the 80-400 :(

really begining to wonder if I should just get the 70-200 and use it with a X2 converter......

So how would I join up If i wanted to get deals such as this? Im after a 24 -70mm lens at mo. how much did you get yours for???

Frankly, if Nikon release another 18-xxx lens it will be just silly to say the least.

Please take this with a huge pinch of salt ... someone more reliable - here on TP - saw the replacement to the 80-400VR and it's supposed to be a yummy piece of kit.

I am not too sure about the logic of an updated 18-200 VRII or the 70-200 VRII; but what do I know.

Thursday is only a few hours away. We'll wait and see :suspect:

They could link this nicely with the launch of the D3000 or D300s if the rumours are also true.

Dominic, as for joining up to the scheme it only applies once you purchase the camera from a Nikon plus retailer. Then your account is linked to the vouchers and you get the vouchers off when you return to the same retailer.

So a loyalty scheme.

Stuart

Stuart,

Can I ask you, if you don't mind, how much would the 14-24 AF-S cost cowasaki (Darren) if he'd want to buy it from you, using his £150 rebate voucher?

If this question is inappropriate then please accept my apologies in advance.

Thank you :)

Woo hoo ....

guess what arrived.....

Congratulations .. enjoy

Congratulations .. enjoy

Thanks.

Just two more days left before I get a couple of weeks off. Will be giving the new camera a proper playing with then :)

Hopefully another lens during that time then at the end of August the 24-70

It seems heavier than the D200 with the grip!

I'm supposing you took the photo of 'Little' (teddy) with all the lights out and no flash with your new 'toy'...? :D

Yes! I took it out of the box, put my D200 battery in it, stuck the lens on and set Little up then I looked through the view finder and pressed the shutter release to focus and it went off. I hadn't actual changed any settings at all hence the rather poor photo but it was the first one so had to be posted

Really interested to know what are your first impressions? Do you see a massive upgrade or just some subtle changes? Some people even seem disappointed that pictures seem to be lacking as much definition as a DX?

Oh I will be posting my impressions of it! I only got home at 8pm yesterday and couldn't even open it till 9pm ish then up again at half seven so it has a shutter count of about six. It feels heavier than the D200 even without a grip. I am working all weekend so looking forward to being off on Monday and seeing what it can do.

We're waiting :p
