I've been looking round for second hand D700 for the last couple of weeks.

A couple have gone on the classifieds on this forum for £1290 and £1300.

I put a wanted ad on, and everyone who PMd me wanted £1500+ initially.

Despite pointing out the recent forum prices, I could not find a reasonably priced one privately.

I was kindly pointed to Aperture UK, and Camtech by a forumite on my wanted ad, selling for £1499, and £1450. Both had gone by the time I called.

LCE Manchester had one in for £1429 - again it had gone by the time I popped in.

Then this weekend, this one was on for £1299 at Park Cameras (a very reputable outfit).

I called this morning, but it has gone apparently !

So given the imminent D3s, and rumours of a D700s, will the D700 second hand drop to below £1,000 before Christmas?

Who knows? All I know is that I am still looking for one at £1,300 !!!

I wouldn't worry too much, you have a brand new one, with 2 years Nikon warranty, and you were happy to pay the £1,700.

DSLRs are now like computers - the best time to buy is in the future because you will get more features, for less money !!!

It does say used though, and how used is anyones guess, i'm sure you will be able to pick a used one up in the near future for £1300ish.

there is a used one on Amazon marketplace for £1,002 at the moment, but I think that falls into the too good to be true camp.

I'm not so sure there are any credible rumours of a D700s - it strikes me as fanboy wishful thinking. If you look at Nikon bodies lifecycle time it seems to be about 2 years, so the D300 (and the D3) was due a bit of an extension. We're only half way though the same lifecycle for the D700

£1,300 sounds possible, but £1k - I'm not so sure.
